When I was in Perth a number of years ago there was a fabulous beer/lager that was only available in Perth or Western Australia. I was wondering what the name of it was. I thought it was swan lager but Im unsure. Anyone know where I can get it in the states?

If it's not Swan Lager, then it has to be Emu Export or Emu Bitter.

Swan Brewery and Emu Brewery use to be competitors but in 1928 Swan Lager Brewery bought out Emu Brewery. Swan Brewery continued to make and market Emu beer

On 5 September 1981 Alan Bond "The Bond Corporation" bought out Swan Brewery and slightly changed the way they made emu export. If you ask any old local who use to drink Emu Export before the takeover they will tell you it doesn't taste as good. (that's me included a 5th generation West Aussie) Then in 1992 a New Zealand beer giant Lion Nathan bought the Swan Brewery.

I have been to the US several times and have never seen Swan or Emu beer there. I now live in Sydney and I rarely have even see the beer's in the bottle shops here.

The site below has picture's of cases/slabs of beer below take a look it might help jog your memory

Yes,..... it "was" a Swan beer.... however due to a change in ownership and a hostile take-over by a rivaling winery after a wildfire, your coveted lager is no more after 2004... However Black Swan Winery does have some fabulous wines available throughout the U.S. if it makes you feel any better.

Cheap American beer isnt nasty, it just isnt as enjoyable as European beer or craft beer. Budweiser is cheap, its not gross, but its not hopped enough, watered down and cut with rice, its drinkable, and I drink one every now and then. Would I choose a Bud over a Sam Adams Boston Ale, no I wouldnt, but would I refuse to drink a bud, no I wouldnt. Im starting to think that most macro beers are produced for the sole purpose of getting drunk. They water it down to make it easier to pound down for people who dont care for the taste of beer. On a scale from 1-10, most US adjunct macro swill lagers would rate about a 4 or 5 (not counting the light ones, light ones would be even less). Most US craft brews would rate about an 8 or a 9. While I would rate most imports at a 6 or 7. Some European beer sucks. They use green bottles which helps it skunk faster (my first Becks was skunked to hell, I gagged after my first sip and poured the rest down the drain). Heineken tastes just like most US macro swill and its an import. Different strokes for different folks.

There's Swan Bitter, DogBolter, Tooheys Gold,

maybe one of those..

we tried to get DogBolter a few years ago, even calling the company and the pub where we bought the beer, but no luck...

Good luck to you! :)
